Prompt: How confident do you feel about your ability to identify claims in a text? What was the easiest part of today's activity, and what did you find challenging? Explain how today's lesson helped you better understand the difference between a claim and other statements an author might make. I believe I'm decently confident in identifying different types of claims in texts, the easiest part of today's activity was reading and understanding the perspective of the writer. Today's lesson helped me understand the difference between claims when they text outright had many valid points and clearly written statements. The author made deliberate choices to write in this manor and I believe they were right to do so without making the subject boring or just an info dump. I can clearly understand and believe the author when he makes these credited quotes from professors. Summary: today we analyzed an article that discussed the different pros and cons of three year and fou...

Prompt: If you could change one rule at school, at home, or in society, what would it be? Using a claim of policy, make an argument for why that rule should change, using at least two reasons to support your claim. If I could change a rule in society would be that people can not argue without being fully willing to change their mind. It should be a social contract whenever arguing, billions must love and understand each other. This should be a rule for all societies, they shouldn't have needless arguments where neither gain anything in return, there should be some exchange of knowledge and not just a screaming match between the two. Summary: we finished the argument notes and began claim notes. reflection : I believe the claims will play a role later in the unit but realistically don't see a current propose for them

Prompt: Think about a time when someone challenged your opinion or told you that you were wrong. What was the disagreement about, and how did you defend yourself? Did you change their mind, or did they change yours? A disagreement that really stood out to me in my pasts was a disagreement I had with my at the time close friend over human rights, I believed the rights of a person should be absolute to all peoples even when regarding incarceration but they believed the rights of a person weren't absolute and believed that after commuting and standing jury they have less rights than the average citizen. I defended myself by stating that when those rights are limited and aren't absolute they are given a title as less than human. They didn't change their mind or change mine, we were in absolute disagreement and I couldn't change their minds. Summary: We finished our poems and began taking notes on arguments. Reflection: I believed I was really good at arguing even without ...

Prompt: Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product? I always had a difficult time physically expressing myself, especially when it came to physical relationships. The first poem I wrote for a girl was strange, I never knew how to write well or  how to find the words to express how I feel and now all my weakness were fighting against me. This was in middle school, a time where love meant everything and losing it was basically social suicide. I took days to even text out what I wanted to write and it mainly came from cheesy rom-com tropes and basic literary devices. The closer I got to writing it out on pen and paper the more I was scared to express myself. But when I did finish I was proud, I was proud of the expression and art I made. Summary: We read and rated our understanding of a poem, we read and read and listened Refle...

Prompt: In A Worn Path , Phoenix faces several obstacles as she makes her way toward her destination, but she continues because she has an important reason for completing her journey.  Think about a time when you had to travel somewhere or work through obstacles to reach a destination or goal. What challenges did you face along the way? Was the journey worth it in the end? Explain why or why not. Phoenix's journey reminds me of this time during a family trip we had taken to a fresh water lake that wasn't open to the public, we only found out the private aspect a few hours after arriving. But before we'd gotten there we arrived to a dirt road on the side of the main 2 lane road, and before we'd notice the scenery we had a family of angry geese start attacking my dad. Obviously we moved out of their way as they waddled their way into the path, maybe out of stupidity we decided to follow them and we see the blue waters. Second obstacle we were challenged by was the south...

What was the conversation about, and how did it change your thinking, perspective, or actions? A conversation that really had a lasting impact on me was the conversation I had with my suicidal friend when I was only 16, them justifying their selfish actions was very eye opening.
